Description
This course is an introduction to the investigation of high-tech crime. It will present the tools and methods used by criminals in identity theft, financial crimes, drug trafficking, crimes against children, hacking, terrorism and other electronic crimes. It will also include high-tech intelligence gathering methods and legal considerations, including ECPA, pen/trap orders, CALEA, and Title III wire taps.

Student Learning Outcomes

Understand computer hardware, software and Internet basics.
Understand the tools and methods used by criminals in committing: (a) high-tech criminal offenses, (b) high-tech frauds, (c) high-tech vice crimes, hacking and terrorism, (d) crimes against children.
Track and trace Internet crimes.
Conduct high-tech intelligence gathering and utilize online resources.
Understand legal issues.
Correctly handle digital evidence.
Be aware of future trends in high-tech crime.
