Description
Continuation of PHYS 151 . Covers optics, electromagnetism and some aspects of modern physics.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify concepts, magnitudes and laws of electrostatic phenomena: electric forces, electric field, electric potential energy and electric potential.
  2. Recognize and calculate electrical magnitudes in DC and AC circuits: electromotive force, voltage, current, resistance, reactance, capacitance, and inductance.
  3. Formulate the main laws and rules applied to electric circuits.
  4. Analyze the interaction between charged particles and magnetic fields.
  5. Describe the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction based on Faraday’s law and Lenz’s law.
  6. Explain the nature of electromagnetic waves and light.
  7. Apply the laws of reflection and refraction of light to obtain images of objects in optical devices: mirrors, lenses and prisms.
  8. Recognize and explain optical phenomena: total internal reflection, dispersion and polarization of light.
  9. Interpret the nature of the atom based on the wave particle duality.
  10. Identify the phenomenon of radioactivity as a consequence of the nuclear structure of the atom and apply it in determining the age of archeological and geological samples.
  11. Recognize processes of nuclear reaction: fission and fusion and their main applications.
  12. Formulate and solve problems analytically and numerically by using algebra, geometry, addition and subtraction of vectors and basic trigonometric functions.
  13. Report results of investigating physical phenomena by applying scientific methods and procedures in laboratories.
  14. Recognize physical phenomena and technologies in everyday life.
