World Languages, AA

DESCRIPTION
The World Languages program assists students with becoming proficient in a foreign language in an effort to prepare them for transfer to a four-year institution.  The World Languages program offers an associate of arts degree that can be customized with courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Students fluent in a foreign language can seek employment as educators or translators as well as possible careers in international business.

Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Interact on a variety of familiar everyday topics in the language of concentration.
  2. Present a variety of familiar, everyday topics in the language of concentration.
  3. Interpret ideas in common contexts in the language of concentration.
  4. Relate cultural concepts and contexts in the language of concentration to one’s own cultural concepts and contexts.

General Education Requirements


TOTAL GENERAL EDUCATION CREDITS: 34


300-level and above courses cannot be used to satisfy GE requirements.
Courses with a B suffix (i.e. 100B) cannot be used to satisfy general education or degree requirements for Associate of Arts, Associate of Business, and Associate of Science degrees. B suffix courses may not be transferable within NSHE.

Mathematics (3 Credits)


NOTE: Your first college-level MATH course MUST be completed before reaching 30 total college-level credits.

Literature (3 Credits)


Recommended: ENG 231 or 232.

Analytical Reasoning (3 Credits)


Natural Science (7 Credits)


Seven credits of coursework to include at least one laboratory experience.

Humanities (3 Credits)


U.S. and Nevada Constitutions (6 Credits)

All students MUST fulfill this requirement. Course chosen may also be used to fulfill the corresponding general education or special program requirements.

Core Requirements (14 Credits)


Required completion in a single World Language (ARA; CHI; FREN; GER; ITAL; JPN; KOR; PORT; RUS; and SPAN) of 111; 112; 211 (or 226 for SPAN only); 212 (or 227 for SPAN only); or departmentally approved equivalent course.

Electives (9 Credits)


  • Choose 9 transferable credits in consultation with your academic advisor/counselor.  Choose from Humanities, Social Science, and World Languages.
