Academic Degrees and Certificates Offered at CSN
The College of Southern Nevada offers various degrees and certificates in a variety of majors. Each type of degree and certificate and what they are for are described below.
Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) and Bachelor of Science (BS) Degrees
These four-year majors are for specific occupations intended to respond to the needs of the workforce.
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degrees
These two-year majors are for a specific occupation intended to respond to the needs of the workforce. They are not intended for transfer, but may transfer to a NSHE institution offering a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in that same occupation.
Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Business (AB), and Associate of Science (AS) Degrees
These two-year majors are intended for transfer to a four-year NSHE institution to complete a bachelor’s degree.
Associate of General Studies (AGS) Degree
This two-year major provides a general education and is NOT intended for transfer to a NSHE four-year institution.
Certificates of Achievement (CA)
These are one-year majors that give you the knowledge and training you need to enter a specialized career or enhance your skills for advancement in your job. Some Certificates of Achievement may provide preparation necessary to take state, national, and/or industry recognized certification or licensing examinations. Please note that CSN does not guarantee a student will pass the intended certification or licensing exam. Designated certificates may also be applied to an Associate Degree to further increase your employability.
Skills Certificates (SC)
These industry-driven and defined certificates recognize identified core competencies through completion of a defined set of courses of a specific duration. They are intended to provide preparation necessary to take state, national, and/or industry recognized certification or licensing examinations or are endorsed by employers or industry associations. Please note that while skills certificates provide the instruction and training, CSN does not guarantee a student will pass the intended certification or licensing exam. Designated skills certificates may also be applied to Certificates of Achievement and/or Associate Degrees to further increase your employability.

Limited Entry and Health Sciences Programs
Limited Entry
Special Admissions Information for Health Sciences Programs: Students seeking admission to one of the Health Sciences Programs should be aware that there are several additional procedures and policies. Some Health Sciences Programs are designated “limited entry,” meaning that class sizes are limited. Prospective students must submit an application to the Limited Entry Office and be selected to a program in order to register for classes in limited entry programs. Information on admissions, selection procedures and application deadlines are available on the Health Sciences Program Requirements website or through the Health Programs Advising Offices, located on the Charleston Campus in the lobby of Building K, North Las Vegas campus in Building E, Suite E-204, and Henderson campus in Building H, Room 234. Students must complete a Health Programs Orientation to obtain detailed information on the limited entry programs and meet with a Health Programs Advisor. Students must also complete a Limited Entry Workshop prior to applying to a limited entry program to obtain information on the application process. Additionally, there are specific immunization, drug testing, and background check requirements for these programs.

Special Costs for Health Sciences Programs
There are special costs associated with admission and matriculation in some Health Sciences programs. For example, an instrument deposit is required for the Dental Hygiene program. Students whose program requirements include clinical assignments at local health care facilities are required to carry health insurance. Some facilities require that students have a Sheriff’s Card prior to beginning their clinical experience. Contact the Health Programs Advisors on the Charleston, North Las Vegas, or Henderson campus for current information on special requirements.

Immunizations
Nevada law and cooperative agreements with community partners requires the protection of students at high risk for exposure to vaccine-preventable diseases. Students in specific programs will be required to provide documentation of receipt of vaccination or proof of immunity through blood testing for any or all of the following:
- Hepatitis A via Health Card
- Hepatitis B
- Measles (rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Chicken Pox (Varicella)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis
- COVID 19
- Influenza
- Rabies (Veterinary Nursing)
Tuberculosis
Once accepted into a health sciences program, the student is required to show proof of no active pulmonary tuberculosis present.
Physical Examination
Once accepted into a health sciences program, the student is required to complete a physical examination.
Health Insurance
Once accepted into a health sciences program, the student is required to show proof of major medical health insurance coverage.
Drug Screen
Once accepted into a health sciences program, the student is required to test negative for drugs and alcohol via a drug screen.
Criminal Background Check
Once accepted into a health sciences program, the student is required to have a criminal background check completed.
CPR
Once accepted into a health sciences program, the student is required to maintain certification in Healthcare Provider CPR/AED training.
