Recruitment and Admissions

The Recruitment and Admissions team provides personal support to prospective and newly admitted CSN students throughout the entire college exploration, application, and enrollment process.  In addition to working with K-12 partners, the team collaborates with community organizations, local businesses and industry partners, and underserved populations to expand access to CSN’s educational opportunities.  They also coordinate campus tours and large-scale outreach events.

First Year Experience (FYE)

First Year Experience (FYE) is a holistic experience of support, connection, and welcome for all new first-year students and families connecting students to peers, the CSN community, campus resources and a network for overall success. New students move through the FYE with innovative and impactful programming including New Student Orientation events, FYE celebration traditions, Peer Leader connections, and overall programming and support for academic and social engagement in the college community. The goal of the FYE at CSN is to personalize the first year for each student maximizing student success and every student’s ability to meet their goals!  For more information, visit the web page csn.edu/fye.

Coyote Orientation & Registration Event (C.O.R.E.)
As the important “launch point” to the First Year Experience at CSN, New Student Orientation is an important first stop to connecting new students to CSN. Orientation familiarizes new students to CSN’s community engagement opportunities, academic programs, advising services, course scheduling, online learning, support resources, policies, and financial aid. With one focus on academic engagement, orientation helps new students plan for their academic goals and get off to a good start on their Coyote pathway towards completion. Orientation creates important opportunities to connect with other students, faculty, and staff establishing an early network for success! To successfully complete the CSN “First Steps” to success, new students are required to complete orientation prior to the class registration process.

New Student Orientation is available to students in an online platform for easy accessibility and connection! Follow these steps to access orientation:
  • Make sure you have validated your CSN student account after receiving your NSHE Student ID.
  • Login to GoCSN with your CSN Student username and password.
  • Select the New Student Orientation App.
  • You will automatically be entered into the orientation platform.
  • New students will now complete their preliminary Academic Advising Workshops right inside the Online Orientation.  Once completed, allow 3-5 working days for Academic Advisors to email your course recommendations. *Health Science majors will be prompted to connect with Health Science Programs for their advising needs after completing the New Student Online Orientation.
  • Complete the entire orientation including the post assessment survey.
  • Only full completion of the online orientation will complete your Orientation Checklist item to meet your New Student First Steps orientation requirement.
  • Save or print your Orientation Completion Certificate for your records.
In addition to Online Orientation, you now have an opportunity to attend a CORE Live event! These events are designed to supplement the online orientation and give students direct access and contact with CSN campus resources and a great chance to meet other students, faculty and staff. Visit csn.edu/orientation for more information on the events and how to register – we hope to see you there! FYE also hosts ongoing Your FYE Connect events for students, families, & support persons prior to and during the academic year. Stay connected to the FYE web page and social media for the most current information.

Academic Advising Services

CSN has a community of academic advising and student service professionals to assist students from the time of their first enrollment to completion. At CSN, advising department assignments are designated based on your major and other factors. Listed below are the departments within our community and the populations they serve.   To determine the advising unit that is best for you, consider the questions below.
Are you a Health Sciences Major?
The Health Sciences Advising team works exclusively with students who select Health Science programs to be completed at CSN. These majors can lead to careers in nursing, dental services, sonography, eye care, animal care, medical offices and records, and patient therapy. To learn more or to schedule an appointment with Health Sciences Advising, visit csn.edu/health-sciences-program-requirements.
What is your academic and/or financial aid status?
Counseling and Retention Services advocates for students and addresses their needs through preventative retention efforts including individualized success plans. Counselors advise students whose academic status is academic warning, probation, or suspension, students on financial aid warning or suspension, and those who require Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals.  To confirm academic and financial aid status, students can refer to the communication center on the Student Center page of their MyCSN account for a notice from the Office of the Registrar and Office of Financial Aid.  For more information about Counseling and Retention Services, visit csn.edu/counselingdepartment.
Are you using Veterans/VA funds to pay tuition?
Veteran Student Services works as a liaison between CSN students and the Department of Veterans Affairs to assist veterans and their dependents with their educational benefits and academic needs. The Center certifies enrollment and provides academic advising for students who are using VA benefits to pay for college. Contact the VETS Center at csn.edu/financial-aid/vets-center.
Are you a member of a CSN athletic team?
Athletics Advising works with all CSN student athletes.  The athletics advisor provides academic support including class recommendations, degree mapping, and enrollment assistance.
Did you answer no to all the above questions?
The Academic Advising Department provides degree planning assistance and course selection recommendations for all remaining students who are in good academic standing.  For advising assistance, log in to GoCSN (go.csn.edu), open the MyCSN app, and access your advising unit’s information from the advising notice in the communication center.  Learn more about the Academic Advising Department services at csn.edu/advising.

For more information, students can email advising@csn.edu.

Transfer Programs Advising - NSU, UNLV, & UNR

Students who are completing transfer degrees should visit the transfer program office of the NSHE institution they wish to transfer to once they have seen a CSN advisor.  CSN offers transfer programs with Nevada State University (NSU), the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).
NSU/CSN Transfer Program
The mission of the NSU/CSN Transfer Program is to provide developmental advising, guidance, and to empower students to make informed decisions throughout their academic journey.  The transfer program aims to capitalize on community college as an access point for students and provide seamless, transparent pathways for transfer students to complete a bachelor’s degree from Nevada State University.  You can schedule an appointment by visiting https://transfer2state.as.me/schedule.php?mc_phishing_protection_id=149734-cv8cgsiif6l5uqlogchg.
UNLV/CSN Transfer Program
The mission of the UNLV/CSN Transfer Program is to expand academic support services by collaborating with students preparing to transfer to UNLV.  Advising includes transfer credit review, referrals to student services, and assistance with transition steps from CSN to UNLV.  You can schedule an appointment by visiting https://booknow.appointment-plus.com/4ye2pqh0/10.
UNR/CSN Transfer Program
The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) has two academic advisors based in Las Vegas who are available to meet with CSN students who are on a path to transferring to UNR.  Students should schedule appointments at the beginning of their third CSN semester.  You can schedule an appointment by visiting tinyurl.com/NVatCSNAdvisors, click Select Staff, the advisor’s name, a date, an appointment time, and then click “Book.”  Meetings can occur via Zoom, over the phone or face-to-face on one of the CSN campuses.  Once an appointment is scheduled, students should email a copy of their unofficial transcript to the advisor they are meeting with.
