CRJ 104 - Introduction to Administration of Justice Credits: 3 Description This course is designed to introduce students to the American criminal justice system. This includes the development and components of the system in addition to the procedures that ensure due process. This course is the foundation of the formal study of criminal justice.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Recognize the historical development of criminal justice in the United States.
- Identify the components of the criminal justice system including some of the major sub-components within the system.
- Explain the process of the criminal court system from arrest to verdict and sentencing.
- Differentiate among the concepts of reasonable suspicion, probable cause, preponderance of the evidence, and proof beyond a reasonable doubt.
- Identify the major constitutional protections relative to the criminal justice system based upon the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments.
