CRJ 164 - Introduction to Criminal Investigation

Description
This course focuses on the fundamentals of criminal investigations; techniques of crime scene search and recording; collection and preservation of physical evidence; sources of information; interviews and interrogations; preliminary and follow-up investigations.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the investigative process at various stages of a criminal case.
  2. Determine a variety of ways in which criminal suspects can be identified.
  3. Examine techniques used to collect and preserve evidence.
  4. Demonstrate the basic steps of conducting interviews and interrogations.
  5. Determine legal considerations impacting investigators’ conduct.
  6. Create notes and reports that can be submitted as evidence in a court of law.
