A survey of the contrasting sociological perspectives in the field of deviant behavior as applied to a variety of socially stigmatized behaviors.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Compare and contrast the two broad perspectives in the sociology of deviance- positivist evidence based and social constructionist.
  2. Assess the importance of social location in the deviance producing process.
  3. Explain the relationship between perspective and public policy when controlling deviant and/or criminal behavior.
