In depth discussion and analysis of molecular biological techniques for research, forensics, and clinical diagnosis. Diagnostics for diseases, cancer, and disorders will be examined.

Student Learning Outcomes

Plan an in vitro biological process of DNA replication, transcription and translation with modifications for diagnostic testing.
Examine current recombinant DNA technologies and methods for analysis and characterization.
Compare and contrast DNA polymorphisms and control of gene expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes as it applies to clinical and criminal labs.
Analyze results from published molecular tests.
Discuss and present current journal articles on molecular biological methods of disease detection.

Prerequisite: For Fall 2023: BIOL 190 and BIOL 191 ; and CHEM 110 or higher; all with a grade of C or better
