Description The following serological and immunohematological laboratory procedures are covered: grouping, typing, compatibility testing, pregnancy testing, titers, cold agglutinins, and quality control.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Discuss the organs, cells, affective molecules, and products of both the innate, humoral and cell mediated immune systems.
- Discuss principles and perform routine procedures, serological and immunohematologic, used diagnostically in clinical medicine.
- Describe blood collection and processing procedures for assurance of safety of recipients and avoidance of adverse reactions.
- Perform ABO, Rh and atypical detection procedures utilizing immunological techniques.
- Demonstrate the application of principles involved with atypical alloantibodies in transfusion medicine, detection and identification techniques.
