Description
The following serological and immunohematological laboratory procedures are covered: grouping, typing, compatibility testing, pregnancy testing, titers, cold agglutinins, and quality control.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Discuss the organs, cells, affective molecules, and products of both the innate, humoral and cell mediated immune systems.
  2. Discuss principles and perform routine procedures, serological and immunohematologic, used diagnostically in clinical medicine.
  3. Describe blood collection and processing procedures for assurance of safety of recipients and avoidance of adverse reactions.
  4. Perform ABO, Rh and atypical detection procedures utilizing immunological techniques.
  5. Demonstrate the application of principles involved with atypical alloantibodies in transfusion medicine, detection and identification techniques.
