Description A clinical rotation in clinical microbiology.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify patient samples with 100% accuracy.
- Identify major components of microbiology analyzers.
- Recognize clerical and technical errors and take corrective action.
- Plan workflow to effectively utilize available resources and time.
- Perform proper infection control techniques such as hand washing, gowning, gloving and masking.
- Use OSHA Standard Precautions/Universal Precautions.
- Use prescribed procedures to handle electrical, radiation, biological and fire hazards.
- Assemble specimens, controls, reagents for analysis as needed to perform microbiological testing.
- Prepare specimens, controls and reagents for analysis as needed to perform microbiological testing.
- Use standard operating procedures to correctly perform tasks in microbiology.
- Perform assigned tasks after minimal instruction, to completion, and within specified times frames.
- Perform maintenance procedures, as directed, for microbiology analyzers.
- Document maintenance procedures and control values.
