Introduction to periodontal scaling and debridement, associated equipment, and procedures.

Student Learning Outcomes

Integrate accepted theory and methods into periodontal procedures and armamentarium.
Perform periodontal instrumentation skills to remove biofilm and deposits from the tooth surface.
Justify the reasons for maintaining the integrity of periodontal instruments.
Evaluate periodontal anatomy for appropriate periodontal instrument selection.
Appraise root morphology when performing periodontal instrumentation.
Explain the rationale for using chemotherapeutics including indications for use and technical application of product.
Use patient information to determine a dental hygiene diagnosis and periodontal care plan.
