VID 204 - Focusing On A Film Career

Description
This course will teach film students how to transform all they have or will learn in film school into a career. Students will learn an extensive summary of how to build a professional name with necessary marketing knowledge most professionals don’t learn until years after graduating. This will include brand development of what their career focus is (business owner, freelancing, or employee), demo reel & resume creation, website building, social media opportunity, authentic networking, professionalism projection, OSHA, legal understanding (LLC, taxes, insurance, corporate contacts, release of liability contracts, partnership contracts, and leasing content contracts), how distribution works in modern age and agent choice. Each class will require outside reading to fully understand PowerPoints. Students will be engaging with one another in every class and have guest speakers during the course to increase their communicative skill and knowledge. They will walk away with a career starter kit.

  1. Summarize the fundamentals of website & business card creation.
  2. Create professional based social media pages & blogs for your film career.
  3. Distinguish the ability to safely network productively.
  4. Understand income/business taxes and business insurances needed within the film industry.
  5. Identify the importance and details of OSHA training within the film industry.
