EMS 121 - Foundations of EMS Practice

Description
This course is designed to bridge the knowledge and skills of an emergency medical technician to entry-level paramedic student. Education in both medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology will be provided with specific emphasis for the prehospital professional. Successful completion of this course will prepare students for success in the paramedic medicine program.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify standard medical abbreviations, word roots, word prefixes, and word suffixes
  2. Utilize appropriate anatomic and physiologic terminology to describe the human body structure and function
  3. Correlate the structure to the function of selected human cells and tissues
  4. Describe the structure, function, and interaction of the cardiovascular, respiratory, neurologic, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and endocrine systems

Prerequisite: EMS 108B  or EMS 115B   or program director approval.
