FUNS 237 - Funeral Service Practicum I - Funeral Rites

Description
This course will utilize the theories, knowledge, and skills taught within the funeral service program of studies and apply them in a real-world setting in one or more local funeral home establishments. Pre-approved off-campus preceptors provide direct supervision of students who will be required to participate primarily through observation. This session focuses principally on funeral arranging, directing, and the comportment, work schedule, and challenges facing the industry. Preceptors for this course are not approved to provide training in the science aspects of funeral service. 

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Utilize industry specific vocabulary associated with funeral service accurately.
  2. Explain laws, regulations, guidelines and protocols for the funeral industry.
  3. Utilize tools and documents, and complete forms needed for funeral services.
  4. Describe the roles, duties and limitations of funeral professionals.
  5. Complete a variety of tasks routinely required of funeral service personnel.
  6. Use ethical decision-making during practicum.
