MHDD 218 - Substance Use Disorders and the Family System

Description
This course explores the assessment and treatment of families experiencing substance use and behavioral addictions. Using a strength-based framework, students will discuss systemic approaches to understanding families experiencing addiction. The course will also provide an overview of the changing traditional family as well as the challenges of non-traditional families. Please note - this course was previously offered as CPD 218.

- Describe a family systems approach to substance use and behavioral addictions.
- Apply basic family systems theories to families.
- Describe strategies for assessing and treating families impacted by addiction.
- Explain the family’s role in relapse prevention and recovery.
