ET 108 - Telecommunications and the Information Age

Description
An introductory course that looks at the Telecommunications Industry from a technology standpoint. The student will learn about the telephone and telephone system, local area networks, fiber optics, how a modem works, wireless communications and other related topics.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Describe and identify what a telecommunications system is.
- Distinguish between various transmission codes.
- Recognizes and explains the functions of the ASCII terminal.
- Compare the advantages and disadvantages of rotary dial and touchtone telephones.
- Explains and identifies the key features of the RS-232 serial interface.
- Differentiate between the subscriber loop interface circuit and trunk circuits.
- Distinguish between multiplexing techniques: SDM, TDM, and FDM.
- Differentiate between AM, FM, PM, PPM, PAM, PCM, and PWM.
