ET 131 - DC for Electronics

Credits: 4
Description
Basic concepts of passive electronic circuits to include laws, measurements, and calculations relating to direct current. Components and general purpose test equipment are used in practical experimentation. Students in this course should have a working knowledge of algebra

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Explain basic atomic structure and its relationship to electronics.
  2. Master the resistor color code and identify various types of resistors.
  3. Solve introductory circuit problems using Ohm’s Law and Kirchhoff’s Laws and analyze series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits in terms of voltage, current, power and resistance.
  4. Use principles of voltmeters and ammeters effectively in basic measurements and apply the voltage divider and current divider theorems to series and parallel networks.
  5. Explain the properties of conductors and insulators with their roles in electrical systems and explain the principle of magnetic induction and its application in basic electronic devices.
  6. Describe the behavior of inductors and capacitors in DC circuits and analyze the characteristics of a sine wave.
  7. Perform Thevenin’s and Norton’s circuit conversions and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve problems. (Math Component)
