ANTH 266 - Archaeology of Food Credits: 3 Description This course explores how humans in the past acquired, processed, and consumed food, with special attention to plant remains, agricultural developments, cooking techniques and material evidence of cuisine. Using archaeological evidence, students will investigate how dietary practices shaped human biology, culture, and social organization.
Student Learning Outcomes 1. Identify key theories and debates about diet and foodways in archaeology.
2. Describe how archaeologists use plant remains, cooking tools, and biochemical evidence to study past culinary traditions.
3. Evaluate the strengths and limitations of archaeological food data, considering factors like preservation and recovery.
