ANTH 207 - Sport and Culture Credits: 3 Description This course looks at the relationship of sport and culture in past and contemporary world cultures. The course uses western and non-western sports to illustrate the nature of this relationship.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Define and discuss the definition of sport from an anthropological perspective.
- Demonstrate a comprehension of the history of sport studies in anthropology.
- Discuss the nature of sport in contemporary culture(s).
- Demonstrate an ability to discuss the role of sport plays in defining cultural, racial and ethnic identity.
- Discuss the role of sport in past and contemporary culture change.
- Demonstrate an ability to situate sport in a survey of contemporary issues in a cross-cultural perspective.
