DH 208 - Community Dental Health I

Description
Functions of health care agencies, literature, epidemiology of dental diseases, community preventive measures, program planning, the geriatric population and dental health educational methods.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify the principles of public health and dental public and community health.
  2. Explain the goals and functions of federal, state, local and voluntary health care agencies and programs.
  3. Assess cultural, demographic and socioeconomic factors which influence dental health need and demand.
  4. Explain the epidemiology of oral diseases and methods for prevention and control.
  5. Integrate dental indices, tests, inventories, interviews or other data gathering methods to assess the oral health status and dental needs of a defined population.
  6. Explain and use methods of biostatistical analysis to assess the oral health status and dental needs of a defined population.
  7. Develop a critical approach for analyzing and evaluating scientific literature.
  8. Incorporate current educational and psychological concepts, learning theories, methods and strategies into dental health education.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate of Science Dental Hygiene Program
