DH 311 - Pharmacology for Dental Hygienists Credits: 2 Description A study of drugs by groups with special emphasis on those used in dentistry including their physical and chemical properties, dosage, and therapeutic effects.

- Analyze common pharmaceutical preparations.
- Calculate the mathematics of dosage for common therapeutic agents.
- Compare and contrast important drug legislation and standards relating to pharmaceutical preparations.
- Correlate basic grouping of pharmacological agents related to their action or side effects.
- Explain therapeutic effects and side effects of basic groups of medications.
- Discriminate between medications that effect specific organ systems
- Integrate the science of pharmacology into the care planning of patients.
Prerequisite: Admission to the B.S. Dental Hygiene program
