FT 131 - Hazardous Materials Chemistry

Description
This course provides basic chemistry relating to the categories of hazardous materials including recognition, identification, reactivity, transportation, awareness, and health hazards encountered by emergency services. FESHE Non-Core Course. This course qualifies the student to take the State Fire Marshal Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations State Exam.

Student Learning Outcomes

Describe the common elements of the Periodic Table.
Distinguish between elements, compounds, and mixtures.
Describe the basic chemical and physical properties of gases, liquids, and solids.
Describe the nine U.S. Department of Transportation hazard classes and their respective divisions.
Apply guidebooks, MSDS, and other reference materials to determine an initial course of action.
