Description
In depth study and practice assigning valid diagnosis and procedure codes utilizing both code books and encoder/grouper software; compliance and auditing; and review of other classification systems.

Student Learning Outcomes

Analyze and apply diagnosis and procedural codes and groupings according to current guidelines.
Evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic and procedural coding and groupings.
Analyze the health record documentation to identify discrepancies and ensure it fully supports the codes.
Utilize software in the completion of health information management (HIM) processes.
Develop appropriate physician queries to resolve data and coding discrepancies.
Adhere to the legal and regulatory requirements related to health information management.
