HIT 201B - Advanced Medical Coding Credits: 3 Description In depth study and practice assigning valid diagnosis and procedure codes utilizing both code books and encoder/grouper software; compliance and auditing; and review of other classification systems.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Analyze and apply diagnosis and procedural codes and groupings according to current guidelines.
- Evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic and procedural coding and groupings.
- Analyze the health record documentation to identify discrepancies and ensure it fully supports the codes.
- Utilize software in the completion of health information management (HIM) processes.
- Develop appropriate physician queries to resolve data and coding discrepancies.
- Adhere to the legal and regulatory requirements related to health information management.
