MA 107B - Medical Assistant Techniques I Credits: 5 Description Emphasis on the clinical aspect of a medical office. Topics include preparation, assisting, vital signs, and nutrition and diet therapy.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Illustrate the cycle of infection and how to break it as well as define and demonstrate the techniques used to prevent the spread of infection.
- Summarize the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, universal precautions, standard precautions, and transmission-based precautions as described in the rules and regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Identify and demonstrate the techniques, including critical thinking, required to conduct a successful patient interview as well as use the six Cs for writing an accurate patient history.
- Correctly describe and accurately obtain each of the vital signs and body measurements.
- Identify the purpose of, list the components of, and prepare the patient for a general physical exam including positioning and draping in each of the ten most common exam positions.
- Apply techniques to assist patients from different cultures and patients with physical disabilities.
- Carry out the role of the medical assistant in, identify diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed, and recognize different diseases and disorders treated within various medical specialties.
- Implement a plan for a nutritious, well-balanced diet and healthy lifestyle using the USDA’s guidelines as well as educate patients about nutritional requirements.
