VID 106B - Heroes and the Holocausts Credits: 3 Description This course explores many films whose heroes lived through and fought against evil nation-states. The course covers holocausts through watching Hollywood feature films set in Cambodia, the United States, Germany, the Middle East, and Africa among others. Selected readings also covered. (We will also have selected readings from online sources and readings from Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States.”)
Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of common elements of how regimes gain and maintain power.
- Explore fictional accounts of atrocities which are based upon solid historical facts.
- Explore the process of how victims of regimes became heroes who fought against those regimes and either won, or through their death inspired others to carry the battle forward.
- Explore ways to promote change through personal development and social activism.
