WMST 101 - Introduction to Women’s Studies Credits: 3 Description Introduces the methods and concerns of women’s studies drawing from history, psychology, sociology, law and language concerns.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the biological fact of sex traits and how these become socially constructed into gender roles of femininity and masculinity.
- Be able to analyze the influence of various social institutions such as family, school, religion, law, politics, language and economics in the social construction process..
- Demonstrate knowledge of gender bias present in various psychological theories.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the historical development of feminism.
- Demonstrate knowledge of social oppression and of how class, race, heterosexism and gender are used to maintain patriarchal authority in our society.
- Demonstrate awareness of how gender influences one’s “life changes” in a global village.
