NRES 322 - Soils Credits: 3 Description The physical, chemical and the biological properties of soils, soil genesis and classification, and plant-soil-water relations.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Show the factors affecting soil formation and describe the processes involved.
- Describe soil horizons in a soil pit or photograph and profile soils in terms of soil color, texture, and quantity of organic matter.
- Interpret soil regions and identify them on a map.
- Describe soil texture, structure, and types according to textural characteristics.
- Demonstrate a “soil triangle” to determine soil class.
- Interpret soil structure according to aggregate characteristics (i.e. granular, blocky, columnar, platy, massive).
- Categorize soil, water, and air/aeration and how they are related.
Prerequisite: CHEM 122 and GEOL 101 both with a grade of C or higher
