DESCRIPTION
The Associate of Arts Degree with History emphasis builds a foundation of knowledge as preparation for further academic work in history or related fields. The history faculty has also designed the program to expose students to various historical interpretations and the interplay of world, national, state, and local events. Students pursuing the degree for its own sake will explore the social, political, economic, constitutional, and cultural trends that have shaped the world in which we live.

Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Identify the contours of history as a varied field of study encompassing social, political, economic, constitutional, and cultural history.
  2. Assess history in general, and the interplay of world, national, and/or local events in the shaping of the world in which we live.
  3. Reflect on the student’s role in society.
  4. Implement oral and written communications skills.
  5. Demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  6. Apply research skills to find information on historical and current events.

General Education Requirements


TOTAL GENERAL EDUCATION CREDITS: 31


300-level and above courses cannot be used to satisfy GE requirements.
Courses with a B suffix (i.e. 100B) cannot be used to satisfy general education or degree requirements for Associate of Arts, Associate of Business, and Associate of Science degrees. B suffix courses may not be transferable within NSHE.

Mathematics (3 Credits)


NOTE: Your first college-level MATH course MUST be completed before reaching 30 total college-level credits.

Recommended: MATH 120 or 120E.
