SRGT 108B - Central Services Practicum Credits: 0.5 Description The student will be directly involved in the cleansing, sorting, wrapping, packaging and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and supplies. The student will gain an understanding of the functions of central supply and surgical support staff in relation to the preparation and coordination of sterile supplies.

- Understand and define the scope of practice
- Understand the importance of OR design and environmental control factors
- Define and demonstrate understanding of the principles of sterilization, antisepsis and disinfection
- Demonstrate surgical conscience
- Identify equipment, instrumentation and supplies and demonstrate proper care and handling of same
- Define, understand and demonstrate the operation and function of the autoclave
- List the principles of asepsis
- Define, understand and demonstrate the proper procedure for decontamination
- Define, understand and demonstrate the proper techniques for instrument assembly
- Define, understand and demonstrate the proper techniques for sterilization
- Identify basic surgical instrumentations in all specialties
- Identify types, parts and care of surgical instruments
- Describe the information found on the doctor’s preference card
- Understand the OR suite schedule and process of case cart assembly
Prerequisite: SRGT 103B and SRGT 105B and SRGT 106B and SRGT 114B
