ART 253 - Cinema II/The Sound Era Credits: 3 Description This introductory course identifies creative use of film-making techniques and surveys the major genres of film since the 1930s. Main genres explored include the Western, Crime, Horror, Musical, Science Fiction, War, Comedy, Action-Adventure and Foreign. In-class films, class critiques, field trip.

- Understand the basic techniques of feature filmmaking as elements of film story telling.
- Articulate critical and analytical approaches to understanding film content.
- Recognize the different film genres of twentieth century film.
