MUS 181 - Business of Music Credits: 3 Description A general survey course to provide the knowledge of music merchandising, management, publishing, contracts, copyrights, record production, concert promotion and manager selection.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Understand and use the language of the music business.
- Understand the workings of publishers and record companies.
- Demonstrate an overview of the music business and its history.
- Demonstrate knowledge of copyright laws, registration requirements, and performance licensing requirements including but not limited to A.S.C.A.P., B.M.I, and S.E.S.A.C.
- Understand the role of an agent and an entertainment lawyer.
