Construction materials and components; materials specifications, descriptions, and usage; construction techniques, and optimal economic selection. Sustainable construction aspects considered.

Student Learning Outcomes

Formulate construction materials and list their applications.
Discriminate between the various methods of construction.
Summarize the development and use of new materials being introduced to the construction industry under sustainable building standards.
Develop various aspects of construction foundations/site work, wood/timber systems, concrete and masonry systems, steel systems, building enclosure systems (curtain wall, roof), and related areas.

Prerequisite: PHYS 151 ; or PHYS 181 and PHYS 181L
