MOT 227 - Motorsports High Performance Credits: 4 Description This course covers the fundamentals, construction, components and design of high-performance motorsport systems including, cooling, lubrication, suspension and braking. As well as the design and requirements of high-performance engines. Emphasis in this course is placed on bolt-on performance modifications and tuning. It is recommended students complete MOT 136 prior to enrolling in this course.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Measure and calculate compression ratio, chamber volume, rod ratio, displacement, rocker arm ratio, valve lift and duration.
- Explain the function and design and perform bolt-on engine performance modifications and tuning.
- Explain and diagnose different types of forced induction systems.
- Explain the differences between torque and horsepower.
- Explain and demonstrate how various changes to an engine affect power output.
