MOT 227 - Motorsports High Performance


Credits: 4
Description
This course covers the fundamentals, construction, components and design of high-performance motorsport systems including, cooling, lubrication, suspension and braking. As well as the design and requirements of high-performance engines. Emphasis in this course is placed on bolt-on performance modifications and tuning.  It is recommended students complete MOT 136 prior to enrolling in this course.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Measure and calculate compression ratio, chamber volume, rod ratio, displacement, rocker arm ratio, valve lift and duration.
  2. Explain the function and design and perform bolt-on engine performance modifications and tuning.
  3. Explain and diagnose different types of forced induction systems.
  4. Explain the differences between torque and horsepower.
  5. Explain and demonstrate how various changes to an engine affect power output.
