AST 104 - Introductory Astronomy: Stars and Galaxies
Credits: 3Description A survey course at the beginning level which discusses stellar systems and galaxies. Topics include stellar evolution, formation of galaxies and cosmology. A minimum of mathematics is required, in the tradition of the amateur astronomer. Recommended for non-science majors.

Analyze graphs of scientific data quantitatively and employ unit conversions as appropriate.
Categorize basic star properties from an analysis of the H-R Diagram.
Compare and contrast the evolution of stars of different masses.
Differentiate the types of galaxies and their evolutionary histories.
Inventory the evidence that led scientists to accept the Big Bang hypothesis.
