CLS 456 - Immunology/Immunohematology II

Description
Study of advanced principles of immunology and the identification of clinically significant blood group antigens and antibodies in transfusion medicine.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Summarize basic and advanced principles of innate, cellular and humoral immunity in disease process, hypersensitivity and their diagnostic applications.
  2. Articulate structure and functions of immune affecter molecules and their roles in disease, autoimmune processes, hypersensitivity reactions, hemolytic disease of the newborn, and their diagnostic applications.
  3. Appraise the role of blood group phenotypic expression and inference of its genetic basis to methodologies of immunohematology.
  4. Correlate the signs and symptoms associated with transfusion adverse reactions with the investigational procedures used to evaluate them.
  5. Justify pre-transfusion testing procedures used in collection and processing of donor and recipient samples to patient outcomes.
