ECE 240 - Administration of the Preschool

Description
Study of the principles and practices of preschool organization and administration.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Develop a philosophy of childcare using currently accepted early childhood theories for creating quality physical and social environments for children in care settings.
  2. Outline a prospective budget based on needs for staffing, curriculum, classroom materials/equipment, and other needs in a quality childcare setting.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of childcare licensing laws and how they apply to childcare programs.
  4. Plan the administrative requirements of a quality childcare program (such as job descriptions, interview techniques, leadership and motivations, policies and procedures, parent handbooks, etc.), and direct care (caregiver skills, goals for children, type of curriculum to be implemented, etc.).
  5. Describe various programs’ administrative styles and appropriate practices through touring facilities (such as Head Start, military childcare, private centers, public centers such as preschool programs in YMCA, accommodation centers, etc.), interviewing center administrators, and job shadowing.
