JPN 112 - First Year Japanese II Credits: 4 Description A second semester course designed to continue and improve the skills learned in JPN 111 - First Year Japanese I .
Student Learning Outcomes
- Distinguish between formal and informal styles of speech.
- Articulate quantities of various items, using counter expressions.
- Apply expressions to communicate wishes, preferences, past experiences, opinions, comparisons, rationale, and inferences in conversation.
- Apply modals for request, suggestions, and advice.
- Describe people’s physical appearances, personalities, abilities, and skills.
- Recognize kanji characters introduced in the course, different parts of kanji characters, and their meanings.
- Reproduce kanji characters introduced in the course.
- Interpret cultural and historical perspectives for how social attitudes and value judgments manifest in informal style of speech as gender variation.
