Description
A survey of musical traditions and stylistic trends of Latin America from their roots to the present. This course will explore selected Latin American music works and styles from countries such as Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and others, studying their influence in other continents and the United States.

Student Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate an understanding of the diverse origins and influences of some of the most important and popular musical traditions from Latin America.
Become familiar with selected musical works and styles from different regions in Latin America.
Recognize the influence of Latin American music around the world, especially in the United states.
Demonstrate critical thinking skills in the writing of a term paper based on the course subject matter.
