PSC 246 - Politics of Developing Nations

Description
A survey of the politics, ideologies, political structures, processes, and important issues and problems in developing nations, with specific examples drawn from selected countries and regions. Students will consider the arguable meanings of “development” and “globalization.”

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Assess major issues in the political development and political systems of selected developing nations and so-called “failed states.”
  2. Differentiate between theories regarding political and economic development as well as relevant controversies and criticisms as they arise.
  3. Analyze and evaluate competing arguments for why some nations are so wealthy and some are extremely poor.
  4. Evaluate the meaning of “development” and “globalization,” and the merits and demerits of these processes.
  5. Construct research projects as they inquire into the politics of developing nations.
