EDU 280 - Valuing Cultural Diversity Credits: 3 Description Introduces students to microcultures which may include class, ethnicity, gender, exceptionalities, religion, language, and age. Culturally appropriate practices, dimensions of multicultural understanding, and implications of diversity emphasized. Service-learning hours will be required.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Examine one’s own awareness as a cultural being, and attitudes and acceptance of cultural diversity. (Human Relations)
- Recognize the dimensions of culture such as race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, age, religion, and sexual orientation, and how they influence our national and global society.
- Identify key concepts, interpersonal impact in the dimensions of multicultural awareness in today’s contemporary, diverse, and global society.
- Examine and critique societal practices, interactions, printed materials, internet resources, and media for elements of racism, stereotyping, and historical inaccuracies.
- Practice implementing appropriate multicultural awareness and acceptance in our diverse, multicultural national and global society.
- Demonstrate strategies: In integrating to multiculturalism across the curriculum and/or occupations, In interactions with diverse student and occupational constituents, In interactions with multicultural parents, clients, organizational workplaces, and in interactions with the “bureaucracies” within one’s employment organization.
