MT 102 - Fundamentals of Electricity

Credits: 4
Description
Fundamentals of constructing electrical circuits, measuring their predictable parameters, using measuring instruments and materials needed to maintain and repair electrical systems, including power distribution. Students in this course should have a working knowledge of algebra.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Differentiate types of electricity along with a mastery of resistor color code and identify various types of resistors.
  2. Using Ohm’s Law and Kirchhoff’s Laws, analyze and then troubleshoot with common test equipment such as meters and o-scopes both DC and AC series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits in terms of voltage current, power and resistance (Math component).
  3. Describe electrical power distribution systems such as primary, residential, commercial.
  4. Apply principles of conductors, and insulators and magnetic inductions especially for transformers.
  5. Explain the purpose of grounding electrical equipment and systems including three phase systems.
  6. Use work and service ethic while working in groups (Human Relations component).
