CHEM 455 - Instrumental Analysis

Description
Laboratory stressing the application and techniques of instrumental analysis including spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, electrochemical methods, and thermal analysis and the use of these methods in chemical analysis. Must also be enrolled in CHEM 455L - Instrumental Analysis Laboratory  during the same semester.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of sampling methods for all states of matter.
  2. Assess and account for sources of error in chemical, instrumental, and data analysis.
  3. Recognize interferences in chemical and instrumental analysis.
  4. Perform instrument and method calibration.
  5. Formulate standardization methodology.
  6. Apply the theory and operational principles of analytical instruments.
  7. Distinguish between qualitative and quantitative measurements.
  8. Compare and select methods for elemental and molecular analyses.
