HIT 184B - Introduction to ICD Coding Credits: 2 Description Principles and application of the ICD coding system with emphasis on diagnosis coding, including analysis of the organization and classification of all chapters, evaluation of current coding and documentation guidelines, and introduction to physician queries.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Apply diagnosis/procedure codes according to current guidelines.
- Apply diagnostic/procedural groupings.
- Verify the documentation in the health record is timely, complete, and accurate.
- Utilize software in the completion of HIM processes.
- Develop appropriate physician queries to resolve data and coding discrepancies.
Prerequisite: HHP 123 and HHP 124 ; and HIT 118B and HIT 165B all with a grade of C or higher Corequisite: None Graded: Letter Grade
