ART 260 - Survey of Art History I Credits: 3 Description A survey of Western art and architecture from the prehistoric era to the beginning of the Renaissance.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will learn to identify the major monuments of Western art and architecture from the prehistoric era to the beginning of the Renaissance.
- Students will learn to identify the characteristics of a variety of media and the different manners in which they have been deployed by artists from approximately 15,000 B.C. to 1400 A.D.
- Students will develop the visual and conceptual skills necessary to identify the particular historical period in which an object or building was produced.
- Students will develop the visual and critical skills, as well as the vocabulary, to analyze and interpret works of art.
- Students will be able to analyze the relationships between a work of art and the particular historical circumstances in which it was produced.
- Students will develop the research and critical skills necessary for writing about works of art.
