ART 261 - Survey of Art History II Credits: 3 Description A survey of painting, sculpture and architecture in the West from the Renaissance through the modern era.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will learn to identify the major monuments of Western Art and architecture from the prehistoric era to the beginning of the Renaissance.
- Students will learn to identify the characteristics of a variety of media and the different manners in which they have been deployed by artists from approximately 1300 to the mid-twentieth century.
- Students will develop the visual and conceptual skills necessary to identify the particular historical period in which an object or building was produced.
- Students will develop the visual and critical skills, as well as the vocabulary, to analyzing and interpreting works of art produced between 1300 and 1950.
- Students will be able to analyze the relationship between a work of art and the particular historical circumstances in which it was produced.
- Students will develop the research and critical skills necessary for writing about works of art.
