Description This course includes a lab. A detailed study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Topics include the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive systems. This course is designed for health science majors.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Describe the structure, functions and interactions of the cardiovascular system and its components inclusive of the heart, blood vessels and blood.
- Analyze the components of the body’s immunological defense system including the structure and function of the lymphatic system.
- Identify the anatomical components of the respiratory system and explain how they function in pulmonary ventilation and gas exchange.
- Summarize the structure, functions and interactions of the digestive system inclusive of nutrient metabolism and absorption.
- Analyze how the components of the urinary system function in maintaining metabolic homeostasis.
- Summarize the dynamics of fluid, electrolyte and acid-base balance.
- Summarize the roles that endocrine secretions play in the coordination of bodily functions.
- Analyze the components of the male and female reproductive systems and explain the process of reproduction and gamete formation.
Prerequisite: BIOL 223 with a grade of C or better Corequisite: None Graded: Letter Grade
