Description
Introduction to clinical laboratory sciences including laboratory safety, professional ethics, fundamental laboratory calculations, quality assessment, laboratory information systems, and correlation of laboratory data in patient care.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Perform basic laboratory calculations.
  2. Evaluate quality control data as it relates to the validity of laboratory results.
  3. Discuss quality assurance as it relates to laboratory workflow, quality control, governmental regulation and compliance.
  4. Correlate patient laboratory results to patient care and disease diagnosis.
  5. Describe the function and operation of the clinical laboratory in relationship to others on the healthcare delivery team.
  6. Compare and contrast employee and employer responsibilities related to safety protocols.
  7. Discuss the utilization of computerized laboratory information systems.
