Description The study of microorganisms of medical importance to man. Includes characteristics, medical significance and identification of bacteria, mycobacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.

- Compare and contrast bacterial cell structure, physiology, metabolism, and genetics. (cognitive)
- Evaluate the growth requirements; gram stain reactions; colony morphology; distinguishing physiologic/biochemical characteristics; and laboratory diagnosis of microbial pathogens commonly isolated from clinical specimens. (cognitive)
- Evaluate the results of procedures utilized in the clinical laboratory for the diagnosis of infection and antimicrobial testing. (cognitive)
