CONS 108B - Construction Materials and Methods I

Description
This course provides a basic knowledge of the materials and methods used in heavy civil, commercial, and residential construction to include divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Construction Specifications Institute Master Format.  Lectures, laboratories, site visits, print reading, and estimating are included in this course. 

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe site construction and the use of heavy equipment in construction.
  2. Explain concrete (footings, foundations, slabs, reinforcement) materials and methods used in construction.
  3. Identify masonry (brick, CMU, stone) materials and methods used in construction.
  4. Differentiate light gauge, heavy gauge, and structural metal materials used in construction.
  5. Describe the various woods and plastics used in construction.
  6. Use current computer applications relevant to construction estimating and scheduling.
